Your logo or brand image is usually the first thing that people see of your company. It is your company’s public face, and come on, we all know you want to look good. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that just throw something up and don’t give it the full weight of importance that such a key piece of your brand is based upon. And with a good team behind you, it’s very possible to create an effective logo.
But more than creating good impressions and building your brand, a properly done logo creates inertia for you and your business. If a good logo can create a competitive advantage just through your look, feel and message, you have to ask yourself if you can afford not to have a good logo?
So what are these 4 signs?
1) Your logo doesn’t look good when used is different media and applications.
Does your logo look good and is it still legible at various sizes? Can the logo be sized up or down and still be readable? Does it look good in black and white? Does it look good both on your digital materials and print materials as well? Can you derive an icon from it? If the answer to any of these questions is no, it may be time for a new logo design.
2) Your logo is too complex
Does your logo have more than 3 colors and too many gradients? Does your logo look busy or overwhelming? Every logo at its base should look good flat, as well as in an environment with more colors and gradients.
3) Your logo has nothing to do with your current business
A logo isn’t about where your business was in the past. It is about what your business stands for now. It needs to be clear, and relevant to your business. Your logo should be aspirational, capturing the essence of your business today as well as where you’re headed in the future.
4) Your logo is hard to remember or doesn’t stand out to the competition.
One of the hardest parts of creating a good logo is creating something that is flexible, clear in meaning, and easy to remember. While at the same time it needs to be distinct and effectively make you stand out from your competition. If your logo doesn’t do this, you are just letting business walk out your door.
Just close your eyes and think of the companies you see all the time. Companies such as Apple have become very successful due in part to their emphasis on designs and good branding.
